Would you like to volunteer?
There's no better way to get involved in your campus community than to come and be a part of something worthwhile and fun! Whether you're looking for a way to get involved in something meaningful, an event where you can meet some friendly faces on campus, or just a way to spend your day, we'd love to have you. We'll be needing people to help set up and clean up, help spread the word, and assist with various duties during the event. Currently we are also looking for people to become committee members and help us plan our cut-a-thon! If you're willing and able to lend a hand in any way, contact Godfrey at volunteer@cutsforcancer.net.

Please check back for future updates, and check out the website of the UBC Cancer Association for other cancer-related events being held throughout the year!

Cuts for Cancer 2009 is a big success!

Thank You Letter from the President

May 2009

To all our generous donors and supporters,

On behalf of the University of British Columbia Cancer Association, I would like to express my gratitude for your participation in Cuts for Cancer 2008-2009. Thanks to your support and enthusiasm, Cuts for Cancer has been a huge success again this year. We have received and sorted through about 300 envelopes sent to us by mail with hair donations since May 2008. We continue to receive hair from all across Canada and quite a few from the United States as well. This is quite a lot of hair and on top of that we received 30 hair donations on March 16th, our annual Cuts for Cancer event held on UBC campus. This year, we raised about $7000 in donations and we raised a hair equivalent of about $66,000! The $7000 worth of donations will be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society to fund cancer research here in British Columbia, Canada.

You have greatly helped us to reach our goals in donating hair to Angel Hair for Kids, a not-for-profit organization which turns all this hair into wigs for sick children including those suffering from cancer and hair loss as a result of chemotherapy. At the same time, your active involvement and contributions has helped in further raising awareness about cancer.

With your generosity we can continue to help support the fight against cancer, and we would like you to know how much your participation has meant to us. Thanks again for your participation in Cuts for Cancer! It is due to your amazing help that this event has been such a great success!

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the new Presidents for our following Cuts for Cancer year 2009-2010, Nelly Amenyogbe and Rebecca Ferguson at president@cutsforcancer.net. I wish these girls the best of luck in running another successful Cuts for Cancer.

I'd like to thank my dedicated team for making this year's event another success. A special thanks to Tracy Lau for revitalizing the look of our website and updating the content of this site throughout the year.

Let's keep the hair coming!

With much gratitude,

Trevor Tsang, B.Sc, MM, MD Candidate 2013

President of the UBC Cancer Association 2008-2009
